No fooling, this April has been one of the most beautiful ever! Thanks to our very rainy winter, the wildflowers have blanketed the meadows with a rainbow of colors and the creeks are rushing with clean fresh water. The oaks are just starting to show tiny pink leaves and the blessed joy of spring is palpable. The Mendocino Highlands are magic!

Although we still had some cloudy and even rainy days, the last ones cuddled next to the wood stove for the season, our cannabis seeds sprouted and now seem so very happy. Our personal crop will be small once again, compared to the old days when we had so many cultivars going, but they are the cream of the crop. Tiny marigolds sprouts have shot up in the sunshine and some veggies are soon to follow. The garden is coming to life again!

A real bonus this past month was the discovery - to us - of a new swimming hole which caught our eyes as it is so very full from the wet winter.

Of course, it has always been there, but now it is clear, deep, and inviting (yet still a bit too cold to take a plunge). It is right below what we call "the native place." Wailaki tribal elder Ron Lincoln told us once that is where they would have set up their seasonal habitat, and no doubt have taken daily swims in the refreshing waters and caught lots of fish in the old days.

Besides enjoying the beauty of nature, this past month has had us absorbed in planning for the upcoming Mendo Cup, happening May 4th in Willits.
|
|
|
Nikki decided to take on the production of this momentous event as a gift to the struggling licensed farmers of Mendocino County and, as expected, it has been a lot of work but so worth it.
|
|
|
|
It is a joy to collaborate with such dedicated cultivators, 34 of whom have now turned in their lovingly presented entries with hopes of being one of the top 5 winners for their sungrown flowers.
|
|
|
|
Saturday is the big judging day and then we'll announce the winners, plus the best breeder, on Sunday at the event. The buzz among the cannabis clan is growing every minute!

|
|

Take a trip with Richard ‘RJ’ Jergenson, the curator of the Cannabis Culture Museum & Archive, who has spent 5 decades amassing a staggering collection of cannabis culture artifacts and memorabilia right here in the heart of the Emerald Triangle.

He has been collecting, archiving, and preserving many Cannabis Culture volumes, magazines, and artifacts, featuring resources from the 1960s to the present. RJ is also a co-creator of the famous Proto-Pipe with his brother Phil, who thought it up way back in the late ’60s.

RJ will join us from the museum, giving Club Swami members a firsthand look at his vast collection – each piece a part of cannabis history. We look forward to hearing his stories and we hope you will join us on this evening at 6:00pm pacific on Zoom!
