Judging by June, we have a busy summer ahead! And it all started with Judging for the Emerald Cup!
|
|
|
|
The month began with us gathered around a large table with 20 Emerald Cup Judges hashing out the top winners of the many categories we now consider: Licensed Sungrown, Indoor, Sungrown Greenhouse, Mixed Light, 3rd Party Certified and Personal.
|
|
|
|
We spent two full days together sorting through notes and smoke from over 300 entries to find the cream of the crop, which will be announced on August 18th at The Emerald Cup at Kaiser Auditorium in Oakland... and YOU can be there to see it live!
|
|
|
|
|
|
On a smaller scale, but so sweet, we attended LakeFest which applauded the cannabis growers of Lake County. We were honored to speak at this first annual event held at the State Fairground. They also held a competition, very different from the Emerald Cup, where the judges were a mix of consumers, budtenders and professional judges. Congratulations to all the winners and to Lake County for stepping into the cannabis spotlight!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the garden is looking beautiful! Since we are no longer a licensed cannabis cultivation business, we are using our lush mounds of living soil, which we have regeneratively tended for several years, for vegetables and our few personal cannabis plants. Broccoli, cabbage, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes and more are thriving alongside our healthy and happy cannabis. Thanks to fellow farmer and neighbor Casey O'Neill for the vegetable starts and help. It takes a village!

And this is just the start of summer! Coming up on July 21st is the 3rd annual Mendocino Craft Farmers Auction, this year a silent auction that you can join from anywhere in the world or be with us in person at the Madrones in Anderson Valley that day.
|

|
|
This event is a fundraiser for Ethos Environmental, a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to helping small family farms, equity, and rural communities meet environmental challenges and increase sustainability through grant writing and educational opportunities. More info below!

In Frenchy’s retirement dream, we have a little tea parlor where he sits at a table with a large multi-hose hookah “smoking everybody out” as he used to say, while I serve a well-curated choice of French pastries with fine teas and coffee. The company would be fascinating , the conversation would be stimulating, and a sense of “overall well-beingness” would be enjoyed by all. Proceeds from the auction will benefit Ethos Environmental, a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to helping small family farms, equity, and rural communities meet environmental challenges and increase sustainability through grant writing and educational opportunities. Not only is this a chance for us to give back to our community, but also a way to raise consciousness about the high quality of the craft products produced here and the incredible people who produce them.

This year we are switching it up a bit. There will be a Cannabis Farmer’s Market happening concurrently at the Madrones so you will have the opportunity to meet several local Mendocino craft farmers as well as purchase their flowers. Then stroll over to the Silent Auction tables to place your bids on the wide variety of amazing items being offered, including farm tours, hotels and restaurants, fine art, farm produce and more. Plus, if you attend the silent auction in person and have a winning bid, generous donors should not be surprised if their generosity is matched by growers who want to share from their Private Reserve!

An on-line bidding platform will be available for you to place bids if you are unable to attend. This way you can be anywhere in the world and still be a part of this process to purchase amazing items and help raise funds for a worthy cause. (Unfortunately, on-line bidders do not receive the shared bonuses which are offered to bidders there in person.) An extra fee for shipping and handling will be added to your purchase and be sent carefully to you – no item is too large to ship!

Online bidding will open on July 11th and all bidding will close on July 21st at 4:20 PM. The Madrones is a beautifully appointed Mediterranean style enclave which includes a fine restaurant, gift shop, two wine tasting rooms, Cannabis Apothecary and Lounge (Bohemian Chemist), and stunning accommodations.
