January is a time to regroup, to be cozy by the woodstove, get the crop trimmed, do some writing and generally have some much-needed relaxation. It's a time to walk the property, see how the rains are affecting the landscape, and monitor the compost piles. This is when farmers begin to sample their flowers from the previous harvest (I know, hard work but somebody has got to do it) and consider seeds for the new garden.

This year, however, we made the big decision to fallow our garden for next season. Fallowing means to leave our garden unsown for a year, while the soil can restore its fertility as part of a crop rotation. So we'll take off a cannabis cultivation season and grow vegetables and other crops in the living soil we have grown with such love and care over the years. Of course, we can still grow our personal crop, as we all know Swami requires his daily joints!

Swami did make a journey in January all the way to bitter-cold Niagara, New York. Invited by our dear friend Patrick King to be on the Legends of Legacy panel at the SUNY Cannabis Conference at Niagara Community College, he was honored to meet the East Coast clan of cannabis enthusiasts. The conference included one day focused on delicious edible meals presented by the American Culinary Federation, and hosted by the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute. The next day focused on the Legends of Cannabis, the OGs such as Swami, Andrew DeAngelo, Positive Nelson, Tim Blake, Dan Herer and Leo Stone. What a great group of the originals!

Most of the month has seen heavy rain here in the Emerald Triangle, and we like it that way. The creeks are rushing, the lake is full, and the meadow is brilliant green.
|
|
|
|
We are excited for the coming spring, which will include Swami's trip to Arizona in February for the Imperious Conference and our journey to Barcelona for Spannabis and the International Cannabis Awards.
|
|
|
|
Not to mention, gearing up once again to Judge the Flowers in the 20th Annual Emerald Cup! The weekend-long event in May is finally open to the public once again so get your entries in or get your weekend passes and we will see you at the Kaiser on May 4th & 5th, 2024!

|
|
|
|
We will be ready to take on the world after this blessed month of recharging. Tipu, on the other hand, might need one more month ;)
