It's been quite a perfect Croptober around here this year for harvest. The first half of the month was devoted to preparing the barn for drying and cleaning the plants of unnecessary leaves so they could focus on growing fat juicy buds. Which they certainly did!
These may be our biggest buds ever and the aromas are divine!
Starting in mid-October the first harvest began, under the stars before dawn with headlights on our heads. That's the best time to cut the plants as it holds in the rich scent of the terpenes before they begin to off-gas with the rising sun.

Swami always chooses the plants to come in the previous day, so the team can get right to work in the early morning hours. They are super efficient as they gently cut the plants, place them on clean tarps, and carry them to the barn to get weighed and hung to dry by Nikki and Swami.
Luckily the threat of rain never materialized and only a few frosty mornings were slightly worrisome, but all in all, it was a perfect harvest!
The barn is now stuffed with hanging plants, drying and ready to begin their curing process. It's sometimes hard not to want to test them all right away, but we must be patient and let the plants fully dry first.

Meanwhile, life goes on and it has been a busy month indeed out in the rest of the world too. Many of us Mendocino farmers congregated at an important Board of Supervisors meeting to continue the fight for our rights and better cannabis legislation. Something tells me this fight will never stop.

On a lighter note, The Hall of Flowers event at the Sonoma Fairgrounds was an awesome gathering as always - it has become the traditional kick-off to harvest for many of us cultivators. It's a great opportunity to check out what other brands are up to, see old friends and meet new members of the canna community.

This season we have been blessed with an exceptional intern on our staff, Bella, who we are so proud to announce received her official Ganjier Certification. The Ganjier program has blossomed and Swami spent another week this month teaching two live training sessions to students from around the globe. These are our future cannabis ambassadors who can speak wisely about all facets of the plant, and how to use Her best to provide medicinal, spiritual, and recreational benefits.

The trees have turned color, leaves are falling, and mornings are quite chilly already here at 2600 feet altitude. Our firewood pile is very full and ready to keep us cozy all winter, Tipu is wearing his doggy sweaters, and we are all gathering inside at night to share stories of the day.
It's a good life, and we count our blessings every day. Soon we'll begin to sample the fruits of the harvest and look forward to sharing them with you!
Peace and love to you all, Swami & Nikki

"The inaugural Mendocino Craft Farmers Auction, which was held on July 16th in the picturesque Anderson Valley of Southern Mendocino County, was a huge success in every way. Sponsored by the Mendocino Cannabis Alliance and Mendocino Producers Guild, this charity event not only raised $20,000 for the Redwood Valley Community Health Services Mental Health Crisis Response program but also raised consciousness about the high quality of the sungrown craft cannabis produced here and the incredible small farmers who cultivate it."
