I guess they call it a La Nina weather pattern. As we move towards summer, the days and nights have remained surprisingly chilly for the whole month of May, affecting all farmers' crops. The good news is the lake is full, the creeks are running and the meadow is a brilliant green. We may wish for cool days like this in about a month when the sun beats down relentlessly, but for now, a bit of warmth is greatly appreciated!

Our cannabis starts have had a slow beginning considering the cold and dark days. But that means they will be tough little girls and we have no doubt that once summer really kicks in they will shoot right up.

We hear all the growers up in our area are having the same issue, but in times of drought, we do not complain about any water that falls from the sky. The month has been spent preparing the gardens for the plants to go into their final beds very soon, in early June. It's also been a busy time doing Fire Preparedness, a crucial part of any ranch up in this part of the state.

It's been great weather to move around the state, and we have been busy doing just that. What fun to return to the lovely lounge at the Barbary Coast in San Francisco after the Covid years. It's the most elegant lounge space ever and the staff is always so welcoming. We are so proud that our cannabis flowers are on their menu!

The other big adventure of the month of course was the Emerald Cup in Hollywood at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre. Continuing in the theme of elegance, this was a whole new path for the Cup as 1250 guests assembled to hear awards announced for 3 hours, followed by a super fun party on the roof.

The Emerald Cup feels like one of our children, who we have watched develop into such a fine being over the years. What an honor it is to announce the deserving winners on the stage! We are especially happy that Sungrown Flowers won 'Best of Show' with Farmer and the Felon and their tasty and stoney Lemon Sponge Cake. Thanks to The Cup crew for creating such a memorable event and thanks to SoCal for welcoming us so warmly, especially Chelsea and the LAPCG family which hosted a bunch of us NorCal farmers at their great location.

We laid low for a few days to celebrate Swami's 79th birthday before wrapping up the month of May with Carnaval, celebrating its 43rd year on the streets of the Mission District in San Francisco. But this year it was extra special as the city allowed a designated area for cannabis sales for the first time ever at an outdoor event - and Swami Select was there - along with incredible dancers in outrageous costumes and hundreds of thousands of joyous people celebrating in the streets!

Also at Carnaval, our new Swami Select jars were launched to the general public. Check out the new look - and for more information read the blog in the Recent Media section below about why the new jars are here.

And while you are reading, grab a copy of the June issue of High Times which has a five-page story about Swami Select and our ranch in Mendocino County.
